Vineyard techniques

Set in the ‘high lands’ or Cataluna above the River Ebro, just south of Priorat. Low yielding vines (10,000-8,000 kilos per hectare) grown on clay soil with some chalk and stoney content. Situated at 350-500 metres, the area has a Mediterranean climate with continental influence and just 350-500mm of rainfall. Very old vines, resulting in low yields and high quality. Ripe grapes are produced more consistently and economically than anywhere in Cataluna. Kept for 7 months in stainless steel tanks with successive racking before being transferred to American Oak for 36 months.

Winery Notes

Family-run winery with 25 hectares-their own vineyard and long term contracts with other growers. Previously a high-end bulk producer, the winery now makes smaller parcels of carefully blended genuinely old wines.

Tasting Notes

Burgundy coloured with good depth. Rich and varied nose with complex aromas of jam and forest fruits, blackberry and redcurrant against a subtle spicy backdrop of vanilla, bay and pepper. Full bodied and full flavoured with high quality tannins. Long finish with hints of tobacco and toast.
